Course Description:
An architect’s word is worth little if their ideas and actions don’t align. How we collectively design and use our studio is our first step towards demonstrating our own belief that the spaces and places we design influence who dwells within them. Make sure to appropriately inventory our space, including accurately documenting the size of our space and its current and desired contents, so that your design is grounded in reality as it aspires to something greater. As you complete your research into precedent, learn and don’t replicate. While there were some successes from quarters past, do not repeat their sins. Develop a studio design that you collectively feel will best support our learning throughout the quarter based on the program (studio needs) we have collectively developed. Using conceptual drawings, precedent studies, images and material samples build a presentation to give to your studiomates. They are the client (so make sure to delight!) and the contractor (and make sure they are buildable).
